On this date, the Federal Government will no longer issue paper checks for payments for Social Security benefits, IRS tax refunds, and vendor payments; instead, payments will be issued electronically. - History: When this filing requirement was first announced in Jan. 2024, there initially was a Dec. 31 filing deadline. Later, on Dec. 3, this filing requirement was on a temporary hold (not required) and then on Dec. 23, through a court ruling, it was then again required with a new filing deadline extension (of Jan. 13) being in place.
